albionmoonlite: Like several others who have posted, I was an obnoxious anti-smoker til I was ten. I think children of all ages dislike cigarettes. Then
I saw a picture of Paul McCartney with his head back prettily blowing a plume of smoke. He looked cool.Overnight, my heart melted every time I saw an
angelic looking girl smoking. I'd have smoked at ten if I could have, except
I'd been so bratty to my smoking parents I was embarrassed to come out of the closet til I was 18 ( by letting my parents notice the smoke in my hair and clothes and by letting myself get caught. ) As with most things, worrying about it was worse than the event. They didn't make a big deal out of it, and probably wouldn't have three years earlier! I've quit a few times for a year or two, but since the bans started to threaten my right to choose to smoke
and have that choice respected I've been smoking apack and a half of Benson&Hedges a day and have no interest in quiting something I enjoy so much that "addiction" is a moot point. A smart, beautiful fifteen year old blond introduced me to B&H in '70: she did the N Y Times crossword puzzle
on Sundays and had excellent taste in everything, and I already liked their
theme tune-so seductive!-and the look of the pack, which at the time was a gem of taste and urbanity, so that became my cigarette, although I also
smoke Davidoff and other brands once in a while.
I love everything Vicki wrote above--Vicki you are a first rate writer and obviously a highly intelligent woman, and I would love to sit and talk with you--and concur on many points: I don't do menthol or ultra lights, I prefer
all-white, and I don't smoke SHORT cigarettes.
That's it--Happy smoking to all!

`Albionmoonlite: Excuse me, I meant JACKI!!! And I MEANT it! I'm in accord with
your and your mom's response to "the menace of teen smoking." I think it helps kids develop an adult self image. Abstaining is for older people.

I smoke maybe a half pack of Benson and Hedges 100s in a day. That feels about right for me.In my 50s i get winded a bit and see the effects of long term smoking. The glory days of it are over. That was the 70s and 80s when you could light up in any bar or restaurant and truly enjoy your cigarette without frowns and stares.Nowadays its been relegated to disgusting habit even outlawed in places.Like many things in our wired lives old fashioned pleasures like smoking are fading into fetishland.Just like good old face to face conversation people would rather text and email than take the time to enjoy anything.I still love it but the changes in society make it more of a fringe activity hence websites like this. You see by the lack of recent postings it is dying here as well.Luckily my best friend a smoking female still light up in each others apartments and have grand old chats. We both lament the days of smoking in bars when a night out meant booze cigs and loads of fun.

I smoked since I was 11 and I love it so much. I love this addiction and the cravings I get. I love to inhale the smoke and tarring my lungs. Smoking is the best pleasure ever!!!

I had my first ciggy when I was 15 & didn't really like it, so I didn't smoke again until I was in my 20s & started going out to bars & such. I've smoked off & on since then but never more than 3-5 cigs a day. (I'm 34 now.)

My favorite is American Spirit Lights. I like the fact that there's no additives. Why do I like smoking? It calms me. The whole "ritual" of lighting up, sitting down, smoking is a kind of time-out from the (sometimes) stressful daily activities. I'm not one of those run-out-of-the-building, pacing kind of smokers. I like to sit (if possible) & relax.

I smoke Marlboro 27 blend. They're longer and there's a filter that makes the smoke a little less burning.
One advantage to smoking them is it takes ten minutes to finish smoking it from start to finish and a shorter one takes five minutes.
I like smoking about three at a time.

I actually didn’t begin smoking regularly until I was 37, following a divorce. My ex-wife would smoke on occasion, but didn’t approve of me become a smoker.

Of course, I tried cigarettes in my pre-teen/teenage years, but it wasn’t something that I committed too.

I’ve always had an attraction for seeing beauiful woman smoking, but not so much a s----l thing, but more of being confident & secure. Especially, women who smoke Marlboro Red/Red 100’s...such a strong, masculine choice of brand.

Therefore, once I became single again, and exploring what those things are I actually like or enjoy (after a 17 yr marriage where it seemed I liked what she liked), I decided bought a pack of Marlboro Reds, and have been smoking for the past 4.5 years. I typically smoke 6 - 8 cigs/day, unless I’m out with friends & have few drinks.
