Posted: Post subject: Yet another Cigarette tax for California! Bend over! |
|
|
With the $2.60 proposed cigarette tax that was defeated in 2006 a certain lawmaker in the California legislature decided he knew whats best not the voters and has proposed a new cigarette tax(AB 89) of $1.94 under the guise of giving healthcare to poor people and whats worse it was worded to say it will be effective immediately upon passage!(sounds a bit greedy huh?). Arent we the smokers paying more than our fair share for state programs while others who do not smoke dont have these kinds of taxes and reap all the benefits? Our tax money is good enought to pay for healthcare but we dont have preferred illnesses so no medical coverage for us!
Let me give you a rundown of new prices of some Cigarettes per pack as they pertain to current local prices
Current Proposed
Marlboro $3.85 $5.79
Camel $3.65 $5.59
Newports $4.21 $6.17
B&H $5.00 $6.94 (these already went up overnight from $3.50 for no reason)
This is just a sample of the state's greed in these trying times . Also take note this is also a way of circumventing the will of the voters and screwing them with a defeated tax anyway. Some would argue that it will force people to quit..maybe some but not all! Smokers always weather bad times but we gotta stand up and tell these idiot lawmakers that when the voters say NO TAX we mean it!
We Californians have a smoker governor and hopefully he will refuse to endorse or sign it...Tell Ahhnold NO TAX.
We as Californians are already taxed on everything else like we got money to burn and yet lawmakers think we can take more? Lets tell them no!
Let other people at the table pay their fair share of sales taxes instead of us smokers being stuck with the state's bills!
Thank you fellow smokers!
