I've read several articles recently that basically say that there's no benefit to smoking a light or ultra-light cigarette over the full flavored variety. I'd like to discuss this as it makes a lot fo sense to me that the underpowered cigarettes just make you drag harder and hold longer or smoke more of them to get the satisfaction you need.
Myself I've always smoked full flavored cigarettes and this seems the most sensible thing to do if you gonna smoke and wanna enjoy it. |

I would have to say it depends on the indvidual. I feel the same way you do about "underpowered" cigarettes; "Lights" hasn't been in my vocabulary since 1988. But my sister and daughter are perfectly comfortable with lights. I know that if I went back to lights, unless I weaned myself back slowly, my smoking style would change and would defeat the purpose of smoking something lighter.

Well from what i've read. The lighter the cigarette, the more chemicals which need to be put in to give it adequate flavour and to avoid that bitter taste. Those chemicals are likely to be damaging to your health.
To be honesat I don't know about the increased/reduced risks to those who have always smoked lights but those who switch to lights from high tar will develop a smoking style without thinking about which will make sure that they get all the nicotine they need.
The tar content of cigarettes has gone down about 20mg in the last 30 years(at least in Europe). It will be interesting to see whether the lung cancer death rate goes down.
So I DO NOT think lightsa are any safer or less damaging to your health but if in 20 years time, no smokers gets lung cancer or emphysema in the UK then i'd change my opinion because the 10mg high tar cigarettes now are lights compared to the 20mg FF tar cigarettes you could get 20 years ago in the UK. |

`It's good that there are different cigarettes, light, medium, strong cigarettes, so the variety is great and we can always choose what we want to smoke.
When I started smoking, I naturally chose a light cigarette that tastes delicious and has totally convinced me. Everyone starts smoking should choose one of these cigarettes, they can once reicheln her lung in smokers' lives, for the other cigarettes everyone has enough time to smoke it.
