Sometimes I feel like I was born to smoke. I've even caught myself saying that God himself said I will always be a smoker, and there's nothing I can do about it.
My daughter and I, last Christmas, set the first week of July as our quit date. We both quit on July 4th. Well, I made it all the way to Day 4 before I caved in. She did well for two months, until she was back at college, went to a party over the labor day weekend, and thought she could have "just one cigarette". Anyway, she's been smoking ever since.

I'd have to agree with the idea of "born to be a smoker." I know when I started it wasn't due to peer pressure -- in fact, most of my friends and family were non-smokers. Even today I'm not sure exactly why I started, other than it felt like something I needed to do. I've tried to quit on several occasions but I always came back to it. For me it's more than just the physcial addiction to nicotine -- there's a certain psychological need I can't escape. Certainly I've felt the pressure to quit and I'm not thrilled about the potential health aspects, but I've come to accept that I love smoking and will probably be a smoker for life. I've found with this realization that I don't feel nearly as much guilt over enjoying a cigarette.

Society has changed so much since I started a long time ago. And then on top of it I reached that age when I know I should quit. These things...and family and friends... all conspire to make you question it all...to perhaps address the fact that the time has come. Yet, to be with another smoker...to know others feel the same ... can suddenly make one very in tune with all the reasons we do love it so. I think I've come to that point of just accepting it. I'm not a ninny...but just accepting it...again almost...embracing it really, has made it just so much easier for me. :D

Hi, just a rainy day in MN and I'm exploring the web looking into info on my smoking addiction. As I'm having a particular bad day controlling my nicotine jitters, I see there are others like me who feel they too may be "born smokers". Like the previous posts I've, despite health concerns, known from an early age I wanted to smoke and have now accepted I will probably be a life long smoker.
I do enjoy puffing on a cigarette so much. That is what it comes down to, despite the nagging cravings, occasional coughs and other health concerns, $2,800.00 a year for cigarettes, negative peer pressure, and a host of other negatives, I simply love inhaling cigarettes too much to ever give it up again.
Unlike Jacki, God never told me to smoke (and I know your kidding), but I have prayed for strength and his help many times to either quit smoking, or like me2, to accept that I'm a smoker and enjoy its pleasures guilt free. Hah, I'm leaning toward the guilt free option as I near the end of my first pack of the day.

I get pressure from new women who I end up meeting in public. I just ignore them when they tell me I oughta quit. I'm not interested in quitting. And what I do in my life is nobody's business.
I love smoking. And if any woman hates that, she can leave me alone.

I've tried quitting, but when it comes down to it, I enjoy smoking. 101 Reasons to NOT Quit Smoking is a little site I am working on to explain some of the reaons I enjoy smoking. Ever since my significant other quit smoking she has been riding me to quit - I don't know what's worse, a nonsmoker or an ex-smoker. I guess in my case it is an ex-smoker because it is someone I have to be around every day.
