Hi..to some this may sound petty But.!! to me it is an important issue..
I 'invited' someone to chat yesterday.....and after the first 20 minutes the discussion became very weird.......I was asked 'was I a Female' ?????
I replied..." you have seen my photograph and my profile, do I look like a male..??" to which the reply was..." well you cant tell on the internet.."
Well EXCUSE me....anyone who can see my picture and even think I could be a man has got to have problems......
I was then asked " would I call him on the phone"...??? to 'verify' that I was a female.....because "you cant tell nowadays on the Internet"

HE is in the USA I am in Australia......???......Hello......!!! after a few more minutes...

I ended the chat.....!!!

My point is.........if you invite someone to chat, surely you would treat
them with a little courtesy and respect, as though you had invited them into your home, and expect the same courtesy and respect returned...
Or am I just old fashioned...????
Or does courtesy not come into it on a dating site.....??
I felt insulted......asking once if I was female was acceptable..asking twice was an insult....I think......
Am I asking too much.....

Dear Whitekitten,

Unfortunately times have changed and what you experienced is not uncommon. It can be disheartening to find out that someone you thought you "knew" online is something else entirely. Been there and done that. Perhaps that was his reference or perhaps he was simply wanting to escalate the contact into something more visceral. In either event it still is not an excuse to forgo manners and courtesy.

While some are here simply because of a shared love of smoking, others are drawn here because of a fet--- for smoking. Typically their interest is so intense that it overrides any and all social convention and can lead to some pretty odd encounters.

Fortuantely there are a few of us "Old Guard" around. Don't get discouraged but understand that many online experiences are similar to your encounter. We all have to weed through them until we have separated the wheat from the chaff.

Sincerely,

Fred

`In my opinion, most of the generation today were not raised with manners and therefore know nothing of courtesy or respect for themselves or others. Blame it on the parents?

`I'm 24 and I've come across this a few times now. Most people I speak to are fine, 1 or 2 have asked me to 'prove' I'm a woman. Honestly I've spoken to a couple of guys on the phone and even met up with one...they know I'm a woman. If I get demanded 'proof' I usually close the chat too.
